Tom

Time I updated this page, seems to have slipped past my notice and I need a break before start work. As well as being a handsome devil, Tom is a PhD student at the University of Melbourne, Australia (originally from NZ it must be noted). He is currently was travelling the globe conducting research to write up his thesis and get away from the office, when this blog started, for the moment he is back in the office grinding out a thesis draft. During this time his travels he is was hoping to catch up with friends and make some new ones while trying not to run out of money (both of these goals were achieved somehow). This blog will did document the trials andand people involved in this endeavour, as well as associated adventures and the occasional musing, about life in Melbourne as an itinerant PhD student. Since returning to his temporary home in Australia he has thrown himself into work and is starting to get some flow on. Instead of killing the blog off as originally intended he has decided to use it to document this brief stay (August-December). Enjoy, and please feel free to provide comments and suggestions. Like you The Tom is looking forward to the removal of ‘[Soon]‘ from the title of the blog.

PhD student (awaiting final approval to resubmit for completion) living in London looking for work. Having free time attention has been focused on writing up research conducted in 2007 (documented in earlier parts of this blog) for publication in academic journals. Thus far (February 2009) there has been some limited success with two papers accepted and published or nearing publication, two more papers under review and another in the early stages of a complete rewrite. Due to lack of institutional support (ie no job) I am also attempting to undertake some limited research projects to keep active, experimenting with online survey methods and digging into some of the issues arising from my research and communications that have not been examined in detail before. Attempts to volunteer with a green NGO were welcomed and then followed by silence, but may try again in the coming weeks. Other than this work I enjoy long walks in the countryside with P and bakng bread (made first wholemeal bun last night, delicious). I will try to update this blog periodically as things happen and inspiration strikes.
